CareMeridian Patient Patrick Parks Honored with a Rehabilitant of the Year Award

Patrick ParksCareMeridian, a leading provider of post acute healthcare alternatives, today announced that CareMeridian Phoenix patient Patrick Parks was an Honorable Mention recipient of the annual Fred Brick Memorial Rehabilitant of the Year Award.

Sponsored by the Arizona Workers Compensation Claims Association (AWCCA), the Fred Brick Award recognizes an injured worker who has overcome significant obstacles and has reached his or her highest rehabilitation potential.

Patrick Parks suffered a traumatic brain injury as the result of a fall from scaffolding in a work-related accident in November 2008.  His doctors gave him a one-percent survival prognosis.  After multiple surgeries and being moved to a second hospital, he was admitted to CareMeridian Phoenix in June 2009, shortly after the facility opened.

His injury had affected everything from his memory and speech to motor skills.  Thanks to intensive care and therapy, Patrick progressed from a feeding tube to feeding himself and is now able to speak.

Patrick Parks“Patrick has overcome incredible impediments since he came to CareMeridian, including depression,” said his nominator Karen Christiana, Regional Director of Business Development for CareMeridian Phoenix.  “The Fred Brick Award recognizes both the obstacles he has overcome and his many achievements in the rehabilitation process.”  In addition to the care and expertise of CareMeridian staff, Karen credits the support and strength of his wife Michelle.

Patrick recently attended his daughter’s soccer game for the first time since his injury and plans are now in process to discharge him to his home on a permanent basis.

CareMeridian’s interdisciplinary treatment team offers 24/7 service with a 4:1 patient to staff ratio, one of the highest in the Phoenix post acute market.  The team is comprised of physicians, nurses, case managers, social workers, therapists, activity directors and dietitians.

Established in 1992, the Fred Brick Memorial Rehabilitant of the Year Award was created in honor of Phoenix resident and business leader Fred Brick, who served as president of the Arizona State Chapter  of the International Association of Rehabilitation Professionals (IARP).
