TBI Patient Sgt James Carey, USMC, Featured in Runner’s World Magazine
CareMeridian is pleased to announce that Sergeant James Carey, USMC, recovering from a traumatic brain injury at CareMeridian Santiago Canyon, was featured in the September 2010 issue of Runner’s World magazine for successfully completing the Orange County Marathon in May, alongside his platoon members. In addition, the video segment shown below was featured on the magazine’s website.
James Carey was involved in a training exercise at Camp Pendleton in July 2009, when a weight dropped in the pool and he went under to retrieve it, but never came up. His near-death drowning experience cut the oxygen supply to his brain and left him in a coma. The doctors held up little hope for recovery.
A newlywed with a baby on the way, James was moved to CareMeridian Santiago Canyon in September 2009 with severe impacts to his speech and vision. He has since shown remarkable signs of recovery and looks forward to his next marathon.
