Paralyzed by a construction accident in November 2006, Ed broke his neck after leaning against an improperly nailed stud and falling to the ground. Shortly after his accident, Ed contracted pneumonia and respiratory complications which left him in intensive care. Later, he was transferred to a rehab facility where he spent two unhappy months. He begged to be sent to CareMeridian.

Finally, seventeen months after his accident, Ed was moved to CareMeridian Escondido. He immediately felt comfortable in the homey facility nestled on a country road and embraced his first steps toward recovery. Working with a team of occupational and physical therapists, Ed eventually was taken off his feeding tube and able to wheel himself around the facility. Under the 24/7 care of the CareMeridian Team, his weight went from 133 to 200 pounds. He’s learned how to use a computer, goes off-site for visits with family and friends, and has been taken by staff to the mall and even the state fair. The poster on the wall in his bedroom reaffirms his daily goal: “Don’t Quit.” With his ongoing remarkable progress, Ed hopes to be discharged soon.
